The Out Reach to at Risk Youth (OTARY) program commenced in January 2008 as part of the initiative of NJ State’s strategy for deterring crime and gang activity in urban areas.
OTARY is designed to give at-risk youth in City of Paterson ages eleven (11) to (18) an alternative to the negative influences that surround them. The level of service for the program is 75 enrolled youths for the year. The program provides recreation and life skills to the participants. The program promotes and encourages sportsmanship and leadership through basketball playing.
In the spring the program participants try out for a spring basketball league of 12 to 14 players. The team play other leagues for 8 weeks towards the goal of making it to the championship.
