Beacon Christmas Sharing Fund Archived Scenarios 2022
1. Catholic Charities has been able to assist thousands of individuals through their Emergency Support programs since the start of COVID-19. They have given out more than $4 million to those who are homeless and at risk of becoming homeless, to assist with emergency hotel placements, rent, and utilities. Many of these individuals would also benefit from Shoprite or Walmart gift cards so they could purchase food, clothing and personal hygiene products. Can you help by making a donation?
2. Catholic Charities’ Meals on Wheels supports homebound seniors throughout Sussex County. Catholic Charities has provided over 1million meals in the past year to those who are most in need. In addition to food, Meals on Wheels volunteers have provided companionship, safely visiting seniors and providing wellness checks. Can you make a donation to support this vital program?
3. Straight and Narrow is the largest nonprofit treatment center in the United States. Straight and Narrow helps those struggling with addiction without ever charging a penny. This Christmas season, those receiving inpatient recovery services are making the challenging decision to get treatment at Christmastime when they could be home with their families. One such client is Beth. Beth has a 2 year old daughter. Both Beth, and her daughter are currently being helped by Straight and Narrow's Mommy and Me Program. Can you make a donation to help those served at this program?
4. The (Knights of) Columbus House is a group home in Jefferson Township that serves six adults with developmental disabilities. The kitchenware in the home needs replacement. The residents love to assist the staff with cooking. Any donation to help these wonderful people at Columbus House would be greatly appreciated!
5. Basile Supervised Apartments, provide help and create hope for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabiltiies in Wayne. Each unit supports 3 individuals. The men and women who live at this program love both in-home movie night and going out to the movies. Can you help them by making a donation to allow for more fun nights throughout the year?
6. “I am a senior who lives in a low income housing building in Paterson. I have been receiving food from Catholic Charities’ senior food bank program since the start of COVID. I don’t know what I would do without the food being delivered to my door. I am so grateful for their kindness and not forgetting about me as well as all the other seniors in this building. I can’t believe they’re still giving us food; What a blessing!” Please consider making a donation to support this senior citizen and seniors served by Catholic Charities.
7. Jane, a 66-year-old Hope House (Dover) service recipient has to work to raise her two grandchildren. She is employed periodically part time. She came to the Hope House food pantry for help. Your contribution will help us purchase gift cards for Jane and other individuals like Jane served by Hope House this Christmas Season.
8. No Veteran should ever be homeless. Catholic Charities Veterans’ Services provides supportive services to veterans with low incomes who are literally homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. They help dozens of veterans in need throughout the Diocese of Paterson and beyond each day. When placing a homeless veteran in a new home, Catholic Charities puts together and provides care packages for the veteran or veteran family including food, silverware, flatware and other needed items. Can you help by making a donation to put together care packages this Christmas season?
9. O’Connor Hall is a Men’s residential halfway house located in Passaic, NJ that houses up to fifty men in recovery. This program was relocated by the 2019 fire from Paterson. Mike is a father and son and after a long battle with addiction, is clean and sober for the first time in several years. With your support, you can enable Catholic Charities to purchase Christmas presents for Mike's family and additional families of those served by Straight and Narrow. Your kindness will lift our spirits during the Christmas Season!
10. Murray House is a group home providing care and support for 5 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Clifton. Our residents would really appreciate funds to purchase new bakeware and other kitchen items. They love to cook! God bless your generosity towards individuals who happen to have intellectual and developmental disabilities!
11. The Marquez family is supported by a single mother who can only work part time due to the needs of her children who both have Autism and Asthma. Winter gear including snow boots, gloves, hats and scarves, are on their wish list this year for their entire family. Your contribution will allow us to make the Marquez’s family Christmas warm and bright!
12. Catholic Charities’ food pantries have given out over 3 million pounds of food since the start of COVID-19 and are helping more people than ever before in their history, due to inflation and continued supply chain issues. They give food to those without anywhere else to turn, and provide dignity to those most in need. One of the regular food pantry shoppers is Monica, a single mother. Monica has a 7 and 5 year-old child. Monica puts food on her table with support of the Fr. English Food Pantry. Can you help Monica and the thousands of people Catholic Charities’ food pantries serve by making a donation to purchase nonperishable food items?
13. Straight and Narrow’s Mommy and Me program in Paterson provides help and creates hope for women struggling with addiction who have small children. The program provides counseling and rehabilitation services for women, while trained staff and volunteers take care of their children. This program is life-saving and allows women to remain with their children during the Christmas Season. Amber is a 30-year old single mother in the program with a 2 year old daughter. Can you make a donation to help Amber and those served by our Mommy and Me Program?
14. Ehisha is a student at El Mundo del Niño, which is one of 4 Diocesan Early Learning Programs. Her father is a single dad who works in a neighboring town. Catholic Charities provides both early learning educational support for Ehisha and aftercare support so that her dad can continue working and provide support for Ehisha. His current wages make it challenging for him to fully provide for his daughter. Can you help by making a donation to support Ehisha and those served by our Early Learning Programs?
15. Josh is an adult with intellectual disabilities residing in Sussex County. He is assisted by the case managers within the Department for Persons with Disabilities, Support Coordination Program. Josh is the oldest brother in his family and would like to make Christmas joyful for his younger siblings. Can you help by making a donation to benefit Josh and those served by Catholic Charities’ Support Coordination program this Christmas Season?
16. A. is a 3 year old student at La Vida Too, which is one of Catholic Charities’ 4 Early Learning Programs. A. has special needs and lives at home with his single mother in Paterson. Catholic Charities not only provides a learning experience for A. but also supports A. and his mother with aftercare, social-emotional programming, language development tutoring and support through their food pantry. A. and her mother are both in need of winter coats this Winter Season. Can you help provide them with warmth for Christmas?
17. Straight and Narrow helps over 1,000 women and men in recovery each day. It is the largest nonprofit drug and alcohol treatment center in the entire country. With the leadership of their kitchen staff, Straight and Narrow serves over 1,000,000 meals each year. The women and men receiving help at Straight and Narrow during this Christmas Season are from throughout all of our Diocesan communities. Can you help this vital program continue to provide hot meals for all their clients by making a donation to purchase new kitchen equipment? Your support will make a difference in the lives of many!
18. J. is an 88 year old woman helped by Catholic Charities’ Senior Activities Program. She does not have family members who live near nearby. Catholic Charities helps her by providing activities, support and friendship. She also loves going to the program for her 3 daily hot cups of coffee with milk and sugar! Can you make a donation to allow Catholic Charities to purchase J. a Keurig Coffee Machine? Staff will be sure to train her on how to use it!
19. Catholic Charities Veterans Services proudly gives back to those who have served our country. The program provides case management, outreach, financial assistance, employment opportunities, legal aid assistance, and advocacy to support the Veteran household. B. is a 45 year old veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has fallen on hard times and Catholic Charities has been there to provide him with interview preparation, employment opportunities and a new suit. Can you provide a monetary donation for Catholic Charities to help pay B.’s and other veterans heating and utility bills over the winter season?
20. The Department for Persons with Disabilities Basile Apartments provides help and creates hope for men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in Wayne. S. is a 40 year old man with Down syndrome who loves to cook and bake. Can you make a monetary donation for new bakeware and cookware for Basile Apartments? This will brighten S.’s Christmas Season!
